Evelyn L. Tombaugh

Evelyn L. Tombaugh, age 88, of Findlay, died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Taylor House. She was born on March 11, 1921 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Denver and Kathreene (Lamb) Dysinger. She married Robert E. Tombaugh on June 11, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1990.
She is survived by four children: Larry D. (Lori J.) Tombaugh of Findlay; Richard T. Tombaugh of Findlay; Nancy J. (Larry) Sears of Jacksboro, Tennessee; and Debbie S. (Larry) Cowden of Findlay; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers George, Scott, and James Dysinger, a sister, Geraldine Henney, and a daughter-in-law, Silver Trombaugh. She attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church and was a 1939 graduate of Findlay High School.
She served as a dental assistant, formerly worked for J.C. Penney, and was an activities director at Winebrenner. She was a volunteer for the Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary for 55 years. Graveside service will held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Maple Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Debbie Kaylor officiating. Robert M. Bushong, 93, died at 3:35 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Fox Run Manor, Findlay, Ohio. He was born on Aug. 9, 1917, in North Baltimore, Ohio, to Ray L. Bushong and Bessie (Foltz) Bushong. He married Margaret M.
Welsh on Sept. 1, 1946, in Belmore, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2009.
Also surviving are two daughters, Charlene (Bruce) Hankinson of Findlay, and Carol (Ron) Rehus of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Amy Dillinger of Findlay, Emily (Jeremy) Karney of San Antonio, Texas, and John (Chelsey) Rehus, of Dallas, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Austin L. (Angela) Lobdell IV of Findlay, and Payton and Jackson Karney of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Raymond (Gwen) Bushong of Findlay; and three sisters, Rhoda (Hollis) Basinger of McComb, Ohio, Margaret (Charles) Frost of Findlay, and Dorothy Sworden of Pemberville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, stepmother Leota Bushong and two sisters, Ruth McLeary and Elizabeth Bibler.
He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 50 out of Toledo, Ohio, and worked at construction sites throughout northwest Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II in the South Pacific and Japan. He was a member of Parkview Christian Church, Findlay.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Neil Norheim officiating.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

NEW STARK, 7 April ----- Funeral services for Mrs. Louisa Bushong, 80, who died Thursday at the home of her son J. M. Bushong here after a brief illness, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the New Stark Federated Church. Rev. J. J. Anglemeyer will officiate and burial will be in Eagle Creek Cemetery, near here.
Mrs. Bushong had resided in this vicinity practically all her life. She was a member of the New Stark Federated Church.
Surviving are another son, Clayton of Findlay, and three daughters, Mrs. Vardie Grieser of New Stark, Mrs. Alice Neiswander of Ada, and Mrs. Floy Baughman of Findlay, and one brother, W. M. Clayton of Santa Ana, California.
The body will be removed to the residence of her son to remain until time for services with the Lantz and Cretors Funeral Home, Ada, in charge.

Bernice Bushong was born on 2 March 1895 in Allen, Hancock County, Ohio. She and Bryon E. Neiswander were married. She died on 29 February 1924, at age 28, in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. She was buried in Eagle Creek Cemetery, Williamstown, Hancock County, Ohio.

SAMUEL SPITLER, retired farmer. Van Buren, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, September 5, 1813, youngest child of John and Susanna (Bnswell) Spitler, both natives of Virginia, who settled in Fairfield County, Ohio, in a very early day. Their family consisted of ten children, eight of whom lived to maturity, but our subject is now the only survivor. Samuel Spitler resided in his native county until after his marriage, when he moved to Crawford County, Ohio, where he remained eight years; then, in 1840, came to this county, where he has remained since. He has been engaged principally in agricultural pursuits, and owns a farm of 320 acres of land in Allen Township, this county, and is one of the substantial citizens of the county. He served his county two terms (from 1863 to 1867) as, treasurer, with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constituents; during this time he resided in Findlay. Samuel Spitler married, April 18, 1832, in Fairfield County, Ohio, Miss Anna Bretz, a daughter of Conrad and Susanna (Foreman) Bretz. Mr. Bretz served in the war of 1812. Mr. and Mrs. Spitler are the parents of ten children, eight of whom survive: Israel (married to Miss Jane Bushong), Noah (united in marriage, the first time with Sarah Loehr, and after her death, with Susa Hegerman), Eli (married to MissEnsminger), Lucinda (wife of Paul Bryan), Cass W. (married to Benia Pingle), Samuel B. married to Nettie Poe), John H. (married to Irena Taylor) and Stephen D. (married to Lucy Rader). The deceased are Susannah E. and Conrad. In politics Mr. Spitler has always been a Democrat. Our subject and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Israel Spitler, Mrs. Lucinda Bryan, and Mr. and Mrs. Case W. Spitler, all belong to the Primitive Baptist Church, called the Van Buren Church.

Catharine Anna Bushong was born on 28 September 1829 in Carroll County, Ohio. She and James Deter were married on 18 November 1852 in Hancock, Pleasant Township, Hancock, Ohio. She died on 13 August 1893, at age 63, in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio. She was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, McComb, Hancock County, Ohio.

Her married name was Catharine Anna Deter. JAMES DETER, farmer, P. O. Van Buren, was born in Franklin County, Penn., March 1, 1818, son of Jacob and Sarah (Anderson) Deter, natives of Pennsylvania, who moved from there to Richland County, Ohio, when our subject was quite young. Their family consisted of nine children, six now living, our subject being the eldest of the family. James Deter acquired his education in the common schools of his day, and came to this county in 1836, settling in Portage Township. In order to obtain a start in the world he worked by the day and month, and part of this time he worked on the canal on the Maumoo River. In 1850 Mr. Deter was united in marriage with Catharine Bushong, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bohart) Bushong, natives of Stark County, Ohio, who were among the early settlers of this county. Mr. Bushong was commissioner of this county in a very early day; he departed this life in 1884. Our subject and wife are the parents of four children: Jacob, married to Catharine Wagoner (they have three children: Laura M., Harry and Clinton W.); Samuel, a photographer of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Irvin and Emily J. Mr. Deter took part in the militia of the early times. He has taken an interest in educational affairs in his township. He has been successful in life and, by close application to business, has acquired 210 acres of fine land on which he and family reside.
