Our Mother, Helen Bushong, passed on to her ancestors on 21 August 2011.
She was born of Jacob and Alta Imber on 31 August 1912, near New
Reigel, Ohio.
Siblings were Eulalia, Myra, George, and Lucille. She was Godmother to
her niece Sr. (Helen Rose Litchie) Ignatius who she loved dearly.
As a young woman, our mom shot rifles competitively throughout Ohio
with the Findlay Rifle and Pistol Club. In 1936 she won the State Rifle
Championship. In those years she was described as independent, determined and
competitive. In later years she was selfless, giving and filled with laughter
and such grace. Mom was active in Pilgrim Church and the Margaret Hunt
Senior Center where she participated in ceramics, cards and travel with her
friends.
Mom was married to Thomas Howard Bushong, who passed on in 1974.
Surviving are three children, LaDonna and Charlene, both of Toledo, and Dwight of
Chillicothe, Ohio; grandchildren are Lee Bushong of Cape Coral, Florida,
Kate Brown of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Molly (Johnston) Beakas, and
Peter Johnston both of Columbus, Ohio and Abbey Johnston of Long Beach,
California; great grandchildren are Levi, Caleb, Audrey, Emily, Kai, Drew, Luke,
and Harper.
Much appreciation to the current and past staff at the Sunset House and
Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Memorial services will be private.

LaDonna Bushong was born in of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. She and Mr. Scholl were married. She died.

Her married name was LaDonna Scholl. LaDonna and Charlene, both of Toledo, and Dwight of
Chillicothe, Ohio.

James McCraig Barr was born in 1852. He and Ida Thomase Bushong were married on 26 November 1896 in Stephenson County, Dakota. He died on 29 July 1923, at age ~71, in Dakota.

STOCKTON - H. Taylor Barr of rural Stockton, a retired Byron area farmer,
died Wednesday in his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He moved to Stockton in 1967.
Born 23 July 1899, in Dakota, he was the son of
James and Ida (Bushong) Barr. He married Almira Bowen Hathaway 6 February
1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Surviving are a stepson, Elwood Hanson of Rockford; five grandchildren;
a brothers, James of Decatur; and a sister, Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Kluck of
Stockton. He was preceded in death by his wife.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Hermann Funeral Home,
Stockton. The Rev. Craig Wagner, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of
Warren, will officiate. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Magdalena Bushong, possibly the oldest resident of Wyomissing,
passed away at her residence, Dauphin and Lake Avenues, on Wednesday evening at
8 o'clock, in her 78th year. Her demise was caused by the infirmities of
age. Up to three months ago she was in good health. Deceased had a host of
acquaintances and was always cheerful and delighted in the visits of her many
friends. Mrs. Bushong was the widow of George W. Bushong. She was a native
of Berks County. Before moving to Wyomissing she resided in this city.
These children survive: Elizabeth B. wife of John S. Hoff, Reading; Philip A.,
Leah M. and Anna M. at home. One brother, Henry A. Kerst, Philadelphia,
remains.

Henry Augustus Kerst, one of the best known men in his line in the city of
Philadelphia, Pa., where he has been conducting a commission business for
nearly half a century, was born Dec. 17, 1836, in Alsace (now Muhlenberg)
township, Berks county, a short distance beyond the city line of Reading, on his
father's farm along the Centre turnpike.
John Kerst (Kirsten), the great-great-grandfather of Henry A., was born in
the Palatinate in 1700, emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1720, and settled in Oley,
where he married Eva Rosina Ritter in 1727. They had an only-child, John
Henry. The latter, who made his home in Oley, was married to Albania Gerich, and
they had nine children: Susanna, Julianna, John, Henry, Anna, Maria, Eva
Rosina, Hannah and Samuel. The last named, the grandfather of Henry A. Kerst,
married Elizabeth Levan, by whom he had nine children, as follows: Henry,
Jacob, Benjamin, Solomon, Samuel, Maria, and three who died young.
Jacob Kerst, the father of Henry A., was a farmer of Alsace township, where
he was married to Elizabeth Klohs, a daughter of Jacob Klohs, also a farmer of
Alsace. Mr. And Mrs. Kerst had four children, namely: Amos (m. Catherine
Snyder); Magdalena (m. George W. Bushong); Henry Augustus, and a son who died
young.
Henry Augustus Kerst was educated in the school in the vicinity of his home,
and in Philadelphia. Until twenty years of age assisted his father on the
farm. At this time he went to Philadelphia, where he found employment in a
"camphor-still," and remained there three years, where he started in business for
himself in the sale of produce and poultry, and this he has been conducting
to the present time, having been located in the market house at Twelfth and
Market streets continuously since 1867.
Mr. Kerst was married in 1861 to Angeline Epler, a daughter of Daniel Epler,
of Cumru township, who was brought up near Gouglersville and moved to
Philadelphia in 1848. Eight children have been born to Mr. And Mrs. Kerst: Daniel;
Henry; William; Morris; Laura (m. M. J. Fenton); Elizabeth (m. Walter D.

The case of Magdalena Bushong vs. the Connecticut Mutual life insurance company, of Hartferd. Conn., will be tried in Reading on October 5. It will be remembered that in the year 1878 Geerge W. Bushong committed suicide at the Cross Keys Hotel in this city by cutting his threat. This suit is brought te recover his life insurance.
