James W. Bushong, 84, of Findlay, OH, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, November 6,
2007 at the Blanchard Valley Hospital.
James was born on February 15, 1923 in Findlay, OH to Clayton and Madeline
(Sloupe) Bushong. On June 5, 1943 he married Carol L. Hosler and she preceded
him in death on January 25, 1993. On November 30, 1996 he married Jean M.
VanFleet and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, James R.C. Bushong (Susan), Santa Maria, CA;
and David W. Bushong (Herminie), New Zealand; a daughter, Christine Tichenor
(Bruce), Findlay, OH; stepson, James M. VanFleet (Mary), Westerville, OH;
stepdaughter, Barbara J. Aumiller (Robert), Chesterfield, MO; grandchildren,
Jamie Bushong (Kendra), Jason Bushong (Lisa), Robert Passarelli (Jill), Clayton
Bushong (Heather), Cybill Goldburg (Joel), Drew Bushong, Callie and Grant
Hamlin, Hunter and Jeff Tichenor; great-grandchildren, Riley, Brighton, Chloe,
Helia, Ruby, Manon, Soren, Sabine, India, Sebastian and Gray; two
step-grandchildren and four step- great-grandchildren.
Jim graduated from Findlay High School and then joined the U.S. Navy during
WWII, after which he graduated from Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH, with a
degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed at RCA/Harris Corp., where
he was the plant manager and retired after thirty years of service. He then
started his own business, Part Two, Inc. He was the project manager for the
building and remodeling of the Findlay/Hancock County Public Library. He
oversaw the building projects of the Blanchard Valley Health Association,
including Physician's Plus.
Jim was very civic minded. He served eight years on the Findlay City School
Board, eighteen years on the Blanchard Valley Hospital Board, ten years on
the Findlay Chamber of Commerce, where he was president for one year, was a
member of the mayor's task force committee, the Hancock County Jail Committee,
the Senate Club of the YMCA, Rotary International and was a volunteer to the
U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had been
a trustee, deacon and elder.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2007 at the
First Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Donna Giver Johnston officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the
Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in
the Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, where military rites will be performed by
the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

THOMAS M. BUSHONG

Thomas Milton Bushong, 72, of Richwood Community Apartments, died
Tuesday, 25 April at his home. The retired electrician had been in failing
health for approximately two years. He was a retired employee of Tudor Electric,
Bellefontaine where he was employed 32 years. A veteran of World War II, he
was also a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the First United
Church of Christ.
Born 31 May 1916, he was a native of Logan County, a son of Harold B.
and Helen J. Leeth Bushong. He married the former Betty Jacobs, 22 May 1967,
and she survives.
Also surviving are a step-son, Gerald Watt of Piqua, two nephews, two
step-grandchildren and a sister, Janet Webb of Richwood. One brother is
deceased.
Memorial services were held at First Untied Church of Christ, Marion 27
April. Rev. Charles Zwiezig officiated for services and burial in
Greenlawn Cemetery. Ballinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Arthur Smallman Bushong, age 83, of Swanton, Ohio, was promoted to Glory on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born August 16, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Norman and Oma Josephine (Smallman) Bushong. Jim was a lifelong resident of Swanton and graduated from Swanton High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Army at age 19 where he served his country proudly in Japan at the end of World War II. He returned to Swanton where he met his bride Terry. They settled down and raised three children, Jo, Jeff and Judy. Jim provided for his family with a lifelong career at LOF. He spent many years as a consultant for LOF and had the privilege of traveling all around the world meeting many people. After retirement Jim fulfilled a desire to give back to the town of Swanton, that he loved and called home, by serving as Councilman and Mayor. This was a commitment he took seriously. He enjoyed the many hours he gave to these positions and the many people he came in contact with. Jim was a cowboy at heart and would have called John Wayne his brother. He was a 50 year Mason, attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and Swanton Church of the Nazarene. Jim was pleased to bring the Farmer's Market back to town. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 4th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 5th at the Swanton Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Harold Ratliff officiating. Burial will take place Monday, February 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm at South Swanton Cemetery, where Military Rites will be conducted by the Swanton American Legion Honor Guard.

SWANTON — James Bushong, who as mayor of Swanton helped revive its farmers’ market, died Friday in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Township. He was 83.

He had mesothelioma, his daughter Josie said.

He was elected to Swanton Village Council in 1997, but left in an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2001. He was re-elected to council in 2003.

He was appointed mayor in August, 2007, and was elected to a full term that November. He ran for a second term in November, 2011, and was defeated. “He really was heartbroken when he didn’t win,” his daughter said.

He was especially proud of the weekly farmers’ market that began in June, 2010, after three years of his planning.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also attended Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and Swanton Church of the Nazarene.

“He was very dedicated and conscientious and very outgoing,” said Jerry Meller, a former councilman and fellow Trinity member. “He had a deep concern about the community and the church.”

He knew nearly by heart every movie John Wayne made. Cowboys to him represented “the idea of when men are men and are honorable people and you do the right thing,” his daughter said. He wore his Stetson everywhere, including the 2010 Swanton Christmas Parade, of which he was grand marshal.

He made his career at the Libbey-Owens-Ford Co. in Rossford and worked his way up to foreman in the auto glass bending operation. In retirement, he traveled the world as a consultant for L-O-F’s successor, Pilkington PLC.

He was born Aug. 16, 1928, to Oma and Norman Bushong and was a 1946 graduate of Swanton High School.

He was an Army veteran and served in Japan during the Allied occupation.

He and his wife, H. Elizabeth “Terry” Bushong, married Aug. 22, 1951. She died Sept. 16, 2003.

Surviving are his daughters, Josie Stultz and Judy Young; son, Jeff Bushong; sister, Mary Lou Perrin; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. March 4 in Weigel Funeral Home, Swanton. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. March 5 in Swanton Church of the Nazarene. The family suggests tributes to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Swanton Farmers’ Market in care of the Swanton Chamber of Commerce.

Services will be at a later date for Mrs. Jessie M. Krempasky, 64, of P. O. Box 257, Neffs, Ohio, formerly of Youngstown, who died of a heart ailment Friday in East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry.
Mrs. Krempasky was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of M. Clyde and Olive Rodgers Bushong. She retired as a librarian for the Neffs Public Library and had been a Navy veteran.
She leaves her husband, Emil, whom she married Feb. 20, 1954; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Apfelbaum of Austin, Texas; a brother, Paul Curl of Youngstown; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Granchanin of Campbell and Mrs. Joann Sladen of Houston.

Surviving are a son, Scott, Troy; a daughter, Janet (Rusty) May, Delphos; three grandchildren: Abby (Christopher) Hicks, Ft. Jennings, Josh May, Delphos, and Katie May, Dublin; two brothers, Wilton, Scottsdale, AZ, and Lane (Nancy), Lima; and a sister, Monetta Lloyd, Gomer.

Deceased is an infant sister.

He retired from Sohio/BP after 33 1/2 years of service, first as a truck driver and then as a dispatcher. After retirement, he and his wife served as tour escorts for Travel Concepts and the Visitors Bureau of Allen County. They had made seven trips to Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England. He was in the Army Signal Corps in England and France during World War II.

Services will be at Gomer Church of Christ, with Pastor Mark Walls officiating.
