MT. VERNON — — Opal Faye Rector, 95, of Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at White Oaks Care Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Sunday, Jan. 7, 1917, in Waltonville, daughter of John and Lula (Newbury) Bushong. She married Thurman G. Rector on Nov. 18, 1933, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1995.

Opal was a sales clerk for P.N. Hirsch Illinois brokerage company for 20 years and then for 12 years at Jackson Jewelry. She was a wonderful cook, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was proud of all her grandchildren and never believed she would live long enough to see her great-great-granddaughter, Za’Niah born, who she loved and enjoyed very much. Opal never met a stranger. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and sang in the choir for 15 years and also helped with youth groups and she attended Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by daughter, Glenda Faye Johnson and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Lynda Elinor and husband Simon of Clarksville, Tenn.; great-granddaughter, Mallorie Ratliff and Derez Edwards of Mt. Vernon; three great-grandsons, Jeremy, John and Josh Hatch of Clarksville, Tenn.; great-great-granddaughter, Za’Niah Edwards of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Evelyn Nordin and Dave Capps of Mt. Vernon and Ruth Hults of Florida; other special family members, Jeanie Hale and Terry of Waltonville, Ruth Ann and Ron Krueger of North Carolina, Carolyn Bushong and Allen of Denver, Andy Graven and Sheli and their children, Hailey and Mariah Graven of Decatur, Ryan Prince and Tammy and their son Gentry of Decatur, Amanda and Brandon Hale of Mt. Vernon, Ida Miller of Mt. Vernon, Nellie Ratliff of Mt. Vernon and Natalie Dennis of Mt. Vernon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant son, Glenn Melvin Rector; grandson, Roger Ratliff; two sisters, Lela and Hazel; six brothers, Raymond, Kenneth, Arthur (in infancy), Virgil, Joseph and William Bushong; and sister-in-law, Geraldine Bushong.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will be at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

He preceded her in death and she became a resident ot Summerfield Retirement home, where she had been a resident for the last seven years. She is survived by one sister Evelyn, the remaining child of 11 children, five nieces and one nephew. Funeral services were handled by Elleton Funeral Home in Bradenton, FL. J. D. Bushong, 76, of 5890 Main Street, East Petersburg, died unexpectedly
at his place of work on Friday, May 1, 2009. He was under a doctor's care.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Herbert L. and Leah E. Grabill
Bushong. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, 7th
Infantry Division. He was a recipient of a Meritorious Unit Award and a C.I.B.

He worked as a barber for Glatfelter's Barber Shop in East Petersburg for
over 55 years. Mr. Bushong was interested in antique and classic cars. An
auto racing fan, he attended numerous car and air shows. He was a member of
the American Legion, New Holland, and the Ephrata Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by a son, Andrew David Bushong, with whom he resided; a
sister, Geraldine G. wife of Robert Fuller, Lancaster.

The memorial service will be on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the
Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata. The family will
visit with friends after the service. Private interment at the family's

Marion Bushong

DUNKIRK - Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Evangelical United Brethren Church for Marion Bushong, 67, Dunkirk, who died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday in his home. The Rev. C. H. Lilly will officiate and burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery.

A contractor, Mr. Bushong was born Aug. 29, 1888, in Hancock County. He was a member of the Lions Club, Washington Grange and the EUB Church.

Surviving are his widow, Marie; three sons, Lester, Findlay, and Harold and Everett, both of Dunkirk, and two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Leatherberry, Wellsville, and Lucille, Wapakoneta.

FRED BUSHONG
Fred Bushong, 98, of Beecher, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at his home.

He was born 11 April 1915, to Mary Teresa and Walter Scott Bushong, and grew up in Streator with his sister, Mary, and brothers, Richard and William. Fred was a teacher, craftsman, golfer, enjoyed cowboy stories and music and was a WWII US Air Force veteran. He and his wife taught in Beecher schools, then moved to Oregon in 1949 to complete his master's degree in industrial arts at Oregon State University degree returning to Illinois to continue his teaching career at Peotone High School. He taught there for 32 years and also coached the golf team.

Mr. Bushong married Violet Gardner in 1948 and they had two sons, Walter Scott Bushong and Michael (Beth) Bushong; four daughters, Nora (Preston) Larimer, Rachel (Joe) Arasin, Becky (Peter) Stevens and Sarah (Kit) Taylor; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
