VIRGINIA M. BUSHONG

Virginia M. Bushong, 87, Michigan City, Ind., passed away at 8 p.m. Wednesday, 29 January 2014 in Hospice Franciscan Communities.

For most of her 32-year career as an educator - 1959 to 1991 - she taught in Michigan City's Public Schools, primarily as a second grade teacher at Pine School. She was passionate about education, the arts and history. She loved the Michigan City community, her many friends, Questers, the Old Lighthouse Museum and the nonprofit arts and service organizations that she supported.

She saw Shakespeare's entire 38-play canon and loved to talk about his work and the words he added to the English language. She marveled that as a Depression era child who attended a one-room school and had a single dress, she could one day become a professional educator and travel to Europe five times.

She hoped that young people would help preserve the heritage of their grandparents and ancestors by volunteering with community groups.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan and husband Matt Denzine; son, Alan and wife Jacinta Bushong; grandchildren, Michael Schroeder and Erica Bushong; and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew and Austin Schroeder.

The family, Questers and other friends will hold a remembrance memorial at 2 p.m. Sunday, 2 March 2014 at the Michigan City Public Library. We invite her friends and former students to join us. Mom, you were wired to learn! You instilled that desire in us. You wanted a good education and opportunity for every child. We will miss you.

Margaret Ann Bushong, 69, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday at Craighead Nursing Center. Margaret was born March 12, 1945 to the late Bill and Vera Carlisle Varner in Decatur, IL.

She was retired from Lincoln Automotive and Craighead Nursing Center. She dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed sewing, spending time and vacations with her family. She also loved her pets, the cats most of all.

Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; her husband, Jimmy Bushong, Sr.; three brothers, Gene, Jimmy and Paul Eugene Varner; two sisters, Christine and Ida Ruth Varner.

Survivors include, one son, Jimmy (Suzanne) Bushong, Jr. of Paragould; one daughter, Angela (Brent) Smith of Jonesboro, four grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Kristen Fagan, Logan Bushong and Jake Bushong; two great-grandchildren, Amelea and Alexis Fagan; three sisters, Janie Gatlin of Little Rock, Caren Hughes and Sharon Stevenson both of Jonesboro.

Jimmy Wayne Bushong, Jr., 53, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016. He was a counselor at Greene County Tech Middle School and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and cooking. He was a percussionist who played in the Delta Symphony and the FUMC Praise Band. Jimmy was also the #1 fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the son of the late Jimmy Wayne, Sr. and Margaret Ann Bushong.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Suzanne (Clark) Bushong of the home; sons, Logan Bushong of Jonesboro and Jake Bushong of Hardy; sister, Angela (Brent) Smith of Jonesboro; and many nieces and nephews.
