Find A Grave Memorial# 72868935. Fort Egypt, a large full-dovetailed log house near the Shenandoah River in the shadow of Massanutten Mountain, is one of the earliest and most complete of the small group of Continental farmhouses which recall the original settlement of the Massanutten region by Swiss settlers coming from Pennsylvania in the second quarter of the 18th century.
Owned through most of its early existence by the Strickler and Stover families and still in the hands of Strickler descendants, Fort Egypt is important both as an outstanding example of a European house type rare in Virginia and as a familiar and well-loved local landmark. Death: Oct. 11, 1825

A daughter of Rudolf & Verena "Frainey" Leeman/Leman/Lehman etc. was a native of Hellam Twp. in York County. She was single when her father wrote his will. She is believed to have married Daniel Strickler in February 1769, just before they moved back to his home state of Virginia.

There is NO proof that she is buried in Strickler Springs Cemterey. It is most likely that she is buried there, however her husband owned numerous farms in the county and some evidence suggests that Barbara & her husband were residing with their son Christian in Augusta County during the 1820's.
