Maureen Joan Bushong, 81, of Pekin, passed away at 6:31 a.m. Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Pekin Manor.

Born October 11, 1936 in Pekin to August and Cecile (Everett) Wendland, she married Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Bushong. He died October 31, 1991 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Travis Martinez and two sisters, Pat Tutwiler and Winifred Anderson.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (David) Martinez and Valerie Bushong, both of Pekin; one son, Scott (Theresa Happach) Bushong of Pekin; five grandsons, Joe (Holly) Martinez, Cody Cornwell, Branden (Sheri Denning) Bushong, August Bushong and Beau (Brianna) Bushong; nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Shirley Wendland of Pekin

Maureen started her career in the office at Borden’s Dairy in Pekin, later working 27 years at K-Mart.

She loved her constant companion and faithful Chihuahua, “Cowboy” and listening to country music and Frank Sinatra. Her most cherished times were visits from her grandchildren, each with their very own kind of love for her.

Maureen had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin in her youth.

Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor John Plunkett will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 TAPS Ln., Pekin, IL 61554.

BUSHON ANTHONY PAUL Age 28, passed away in his home early Sunday afternoon (July 27, 2014). He was born March 3, 1985 in Royal Oak, MI to Paul and Deborah Bushon. He is survived by his beloved wife Robbie J. Wong, son, brothers, and countless others whom he had a profound impact on. Anthony was a loving man who was fiercely loyal and never hesitated to open his heart and home to friends and family alike. Although he was taken far too soon, from his life we can learn how to stay strong even through overwhelming struggles. Rest in peace Anthony, you will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 3pm to 9pm. Edmond Mitchell. My second Great Grandmother, MARY D. MITCHELL, daughter of Fanny, Francis DAVIS and Frederick MITCHELL was born in Pike County in 1823.

Frederick MITCHELL born about 1790 in Virginia, could have been the son of Frederick MITCHELL who married LUCY LAD in Ross County, in 1805. Francis, Fanny DAVIS was the daughter of John DAVIS who resided in Pike County around the time period of 1820. She was born 1797 in Virginia. The first child of Frederick and Francis MITCHELL was Mary D.

They lived in Pickaway County then Pike County, then the family moved to Jay County, Indiana. The area had just opened to settlers. The only proof of Frederick's land purchase was found on the present day owner's abstracts. It is the first entry. Their Frederick died about 1845. Most of their children were grown so all moved on. Mary D. became the wife of Joseph Roach after he lost his first wife. He was left with a large family. This has left quite some confusion, as Mary was the same age as Joseph's oldest daughter. It has been interesting to straighten out researchers and cousins of this bit of information over the years.

Mary and Joseph Roach then moved to Northwestern Missouri. Then about the time of the Civil War they moved to Platte County, Missouri. Their farm was on a fractional section along the Missouri River. It flooded quite often leaving a deposit of poisonous snakes. Luckily no one died from them, but one son did drown in a nearby lake in the late 1860's. Letters written to my Grandfather Roach tell that Mary was a short stocky very kind lady who worked very hard. She was pretty with lots of heavy black hair. Joseph died about 1865 and Mary 1886. They both are buried in the Iatan Cemetery.

Frances ("Fanny") Davis was born in 1797 in Virginia. She and Frederick Mitchell, DNA match with Bushong, were married on 21 May 1823 in Pike County, Ohio. She died in Jay County, Indiana.
