Minnie Smith, 95, of Beaverton, died July 8, 2003, at Tender Care Nursing Home in Midland following a long illness. She was born August 8, 1907, to Lewis and Nellie (Bushong) Druley in Gladwin. The lifetime Gladwin County resident was a homemaker, who had a love for quilting and who was a great gardener. She married Dewey D. Gould, who preceded her in death in 1935. Her second husband, Cody E. Smith, predeceased her in 1961.

She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Don W. and Alice Druley of Conway, Missouri, Grover L. and Dolly Druley of Dallas, Texas, Dale D. Gould of Beaverton, Dewey S. and Ruby Gould of Sanford, and Lester L. and Betty Smith of Nashville Tennessee; 15 grandchildren: Steve and Peggy Druley, David and Sue Druley, Renee (Druley) and Mark Buckner, Marie (Druley) and Steve Sellitti, Donald Druley, Michelle Druley, Richard D. Gould, Susan J. (Gould) and Randall Walker, Jeanne Sue (Runyon) and Al Oram, Randy W. and Kathy Gould, Sonja K. (Gould) and Andrew Walshaw; three step-grandchildren: Brian and Amy Gee, Chris and Stacy Gee, Amanda Gee; several great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Frances Winter of West Branch and Irene Krocker of Midland.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Mary Arlene (Markell) Gould; daughter Dorothy J. (Gould) Runyon; grandchildren Rudy Druley and James Gould; seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home with Fred Wilson officiating. She was buried in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Visitation was held Friday, July 11, 2003, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin.

CARRIE SHEARS
Mrs. Carrie A. Shears, 65, of 676 Howard Rd., Beaverton, died Saturday, Aug. 30, in the Gladwin Area Hospital following a long illness. Born in Gladwin on August 30, 1911, she had spent her lifetime here. The former Carrie Druley, she was married to Charles Shears on January 4, 1930, in Gladwin.
Besides her husband,she is survived by 6 sons, Louis, Sam and William of Beaverton, Albert of Sweet Port, La., John of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Joseph of Pontiac; 3 daughters, Mrs. A. J. (Mary) Jenks, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Dings and Mrs. Michael (Ruth) Vickery of Pontiac; one brother, George Druley of Flint; 4 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Smith and Mrs. Gladys Cottrell of Beaverton, Mrs. Frances Winters of West Branch and Mrs. Irene Crocker of Midland; 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Carter Miller officiated and burial was in the Arbutus Cemetery.

SERVICES HELD FOR GLADWIN MAN

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home for Cody E. Smith, 72, of Buckeye Township, who died Saturday at Veteran's Hospital, Saginaw, following a two year illness. The Rev. Randall Roose officiated and burial was in Highland cemetery. Born on Nov. 29, 1888, in Bryan, Ohio, he came to Gladwin County in 1910 and was employed as an oil field pumper. He was married to the former Minnie Druley in April, 1938, in Gladwin. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his widow, Minnie; a son, Lester, of Beaverton; four step-sons, Donald Druley of Tampa, Fla., Grover Druley, of Baltimore, Dale Gould; of Texas, and Dewey Gould of Midland; four sisters, Mrs. Alma Arkwright and Mrs. Hazel Rise, of Beaverton, Mrs. Leatha Rheinhart, of Midland, and Mrs. Lib Burlue, of Reading.
