While in college, Vickie was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, National Honor Fraternity and Pi Sigma Alpha, National Political Science Honor Society. Vickie was married to Dr. Rex D. Bushong for 48 years and 9 months.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents. She is succeeded in life by her husband Dr. Rex D. Bushong, and son Ashley D. Bushong and wife Shari of Dadeville, AL and daughter Amanda Keifer Bushong and husband Chef Kit Keifer of Kansas City, MO, her sister Cindy Holmes and husband Robert Holmes, niece Robin Rogers and nephew Matthew Holmes of Texarkana, TX. Her aunt and uncle, Joyce and Carthol Marsh of Whitney, TX and cousins Rodney Marsh and wife Terri of Christoval, TX and Larry Marsh and wife Anita of Waxahachie, TX.

Vickie was very proud of her Texas Heritage as a sixth generation Texan. Her family history dates back to Cynthia Ann Parker and Quanha Parker. Because of her family history, she became an avid collector of early maps of Texas, documents, currency and photographs from the Republic of Texas and of Quanah Parker. On July 4, 2018 The Vickie Bushong Memorial Collection along with some from the Henson Collection will be exhibited in the Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library in Gonzales, Tx. The exhibit opening will be from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. at 301 Saint Joseph St. This is the largest private collection of Texas Revolutionary Documents on display.

Prior to moving to Texas, Vickie was Director of Public Relations for Still Waters Resort Community-AL and was responsible for TV commercials that aired in-state and the southeast. She was also Director of Public Relations for the Barbara Mandrell Alabama Sheriff's Girls Ranch Golf Tournament and show. Vickie headed the fundraising effort that raised $150,000 in three months. This was a very successful event for two years. For about a year, Vickie had an internship with the Alabama Ethics Commission in Montgomery, AL and as such attended State Board meetings such as The Alabama Board of Education, Alabama Beverage Control Board and the Alabama Pardon and Parole Board. Concurrently she conducted invertigative work involving complaints concerning elected officials and state workers and was responsible for reports and recommendations to the State Ethics Commission.

While residing in San Angelo, Vickie served as Symphony Guild President and on the Symphony Board. More recently, Vickie served on the Culture Affairs Council Board. She also enjoyed playing bridge with several clubs, along with shopping for Jimmy Choo shoes. Vickie loved to give parties and surround herself with many friends. Her favorite last two parties were western dances featuring the Weldon Henson Band.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to The Texas Heart Institute or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX.
