M Sgt. Oswald F. Burd, husband of Mrs. Anna Mae Powell Burd, of 498 East Adams street, has recently arrived in Panama and has been assigned as flight chief to the 23rd Tow Target Squadron at the Rio Hato army air base, an installation of the Caribbean Air Command.

Entering the service November 5. 1941, Sgt. Burd attended Chanute air mechajilic school at Chanute Field. He served overseas In England. France and in the Middle East. For his service in combat he was awarded the ETO ribbon with three battle stars. Prior to entering the service, Sgt. Burd attended Memorial high school in St. Mary's, Ohio, and was a graduate member of the class of 1937. He is the father of one daughter, Margaret, also residing in Franklm. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Burd, live in St. Mary's, Ohio.

Serge Eugene Bushong passed away on Sunday, October 16th, in Wheaton, Illinois. He was 91. Mr. Bushong was born on April 17, 1925, in St. Mary's, Ohio. Shortly before turning eighteen, he joined the navy and served on the USS Jeffers DD 621 destroyer during the Normandy invasion. His ship also engaged the Japanese during the invasion of Okinawa. The Jeffers was credited with shooting down the first "baka" bomb, 2000 pounds of TNT. Participating in both theaters during World War ll, the Jeffers became a highly decorated ship. Serge remained close to many of his shipmates through the years, organizing and participating in periodic reunions. Following his war service, Mr. Bushong moved to Chicago. After a year in art school, he changed career paths and joined American United Life Insurance Company. There he met and married the love of his life, Norma Eleanor, and moved his growing family to Indianapolis. In 1967, Petroleum Energy Production Corporation was established. PEPCOR was an oil and gas company involved in all aspects of exploration and drilling. Their primary area of focus was in southern Illinois and northeast Ohio. In the late eighties, Mr. Bushong embarked on a second career as a school bus driver. As a result of his experiences, he co-authored Student Behavior Management, a practical, hands-on guide to assist drivers in safely transporting their students. Serge loved planes and when not flying them he built them. Through the years he constructed many radio-controlled planes. In his mid-eighties, he was made an honorary member of the DuPage Flying Club. Artistically gifted, Mr. Bushong sang in the U.S. Navy Bluejacket Choir, could pick out the notes of a song on the harmonica, sketch portraits and build the perfect igloo. He loved a good story as much as telling a goofy joke. Serge is survived by his beloved second wife, Irena. The core of his life was family and the time he spent with them, be it carving his signature pumpkin, flying kites, or playing cards while teaching his children, Andrea (John) Vaughan, Glenn (De) Bushong and Brian (Kathy) Bushong how to count to 21. He has seven grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, Josh, Eleanor, Sophia, Eva and Isabella. His great-grandchildren are Braydon, Kaden, Jake, Sophya, Charlotte, Alivia, and Hadley. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Norma (Bordner) and his brother, Robert. Mr. Bushong's family is hosting a "Celebration of Life" gathering for relatives and friends who wish to honor a life well loved and lived in the Atrium at Wheaton Academy, West Chicago, IL on Thursday, October 27th, 6:30 pm. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Veterans organization of your choice.

Irene Bushong Feb. 16, 1916 - Nov. 17, 2002 Irene Maude Mullett was born February 16, 1916 in Ottawa, Ohio. Irene was the eighth of nine children. Her siblings included two sets of twins. She passed away peacefully November 17, 2002 in Chula Vista, Calif. at the age of 86. Irene graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Lima, Ohio Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. While in nursing school, a classmate introduced her to Clyde Bushong, her future husband. The classmate was Clyde's sister, Helen. Irene contracted tuberculosis while working with patients at a T.B. sanitarium. The disease and its arrest delayed her marriage to Clyde three years and left her with reduced lung capacity for the remainder of her life. Irene and Clyde married in June of 1940, and she spent the next 22 years as a Navy wife. Despite her physical handicap, she supported her husband and his shipmates during WWII and handled beautifully the difficult task of managing a home and raising four children while her husband was at sea. The family had duty station in Norfolk and Quantico, Virginia as well as London, England, but the San Diego area was home, especially the house on Country Club Drive in Chula Vista. While in Virginia, Irene was honored by the National Red Cross for instituting a Candy Striper Program at the Naval Hospital in Quantico. She later did the same at Chula Vista Community Hospital. She was a member of the hospital's Auxiliary and took to the stage in the Auxiliary's Follies. Irene was also active in the Chula Vista Newcomer's Club and serving a term as President of that organization. Irene was a natural in the kitchen, whether working from scratch or with leftovers. She was a talented seamstress. She was very clever and imaginative with handicrafts. She also loved to play golf, especially with her husband. She loved Beethoven, and the louder the better. Her family fondly remembers her sly and witty sense of humor. Irene is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Clyde of Chula Vista; daughter, Pat Boom of San Ramon, Calif; daughter, Sarah Keyser of Cataldo, Idaho; son, Roger Bushong of Smelterville, Idaho; and son Joe Bushong of Lakeside, Calif. She is survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

Carol Ann Shenks was born on 15 February 1952. She died on 1 March 2017, at age 65, in Anthem, Arizona.

Carol passed away after years of fighting organ failure. After her successful liver transplant she began her struggle with kidney failure. She fought valiantly. After a Medical Mistake made at Mayo Clinic, Carol suffered major organ damage to her Heart and Lungs. After this she spent her remaining days at home with her family. She passed away in the afternoon after falling asleep.
