According to the War Department Records.
Born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He was 32 years old when he first enlisted on Oct. 25, 1861. He mustered into Company H, Ninth Regiment Kentucky Infantry – Union - November 26, 1861 as a Private. He is described as having ‘a fair complexion, blue eyes, black hair and being a farmer by occupation.'

By the the end of 1861 he was promoted to Corporal – he was promoted Sgt. on April 20, 1862. This would have been just a couple of weeks after the Battle of Shiloh fought April 6th and 7th, 1862 – the record does not state he was there, but Company H was.

The Company Muster Roll for November and December, 1862 shows him ‘at Nashville sick since December 24, 1862'. This would probably mean he was not with the Company during the Battle of Stone's River that was fought December 31, 1862 thru January 2, 1863 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

He was mustered out of the Regiment on March 16, 1863 "by order of General Rosencrans" due to a ‘Certificate of Disability for Discharge' for a severe hernia on the right side.

He first applied for an ‘Invalid Pension' August 5th, 1867 and then for some reason again September 16, 1907 – he was granted Pension Certificate 91,206.

After his death, his widow Sarah A. Norman applied for a Widow's Pension which was granted – Application 906,512 - Certificate 679,768

Commentary:
He would not be the only older soldier to fudge on his age at enlistment. The ‘Muster In' card shows him to be 32 - the Certificate of Disability' shows him as 37 years of age which would be closer to his actual age.

Find A Grave Memorial# 32092652. On Christmas day in the year of 1831 in Parke Co, Indiana, there was born a little baby girl to Rev. Jacob and Martha (BUSHONG) LOUGH. They named her Allie Margaret. She grew to girlhood surrounded by Christian influences and about her fourteenth year confessed faith in her fathers Savior. On October 30, 1850, she was united in married to John DARLAND (son of Abraham and Rebecca REYNOLDS DARLAND, grandson of Lambert Darland). They lived in Illinois for a short time, then they moved on across the Mississippi with and her faithful companion worked side by side enduring the hardships of pioneer life. By work and perseverance they laid aside enough of this worlds goods to care for them in their old age. She united with the Christian Church when it was first organized in the little school house north west of Barnes City, Iowa. They went with it to the old Agricola Church and finally to its present place in Barnes City Iowa. Then on the great book if life is credited to her about eighty years of Christian service. She and her loving companion gave up the farm and moved to Barnes City where her husband died on August 31, 1916. To this union were born twelve children, six of them preceding her in death. Three in infancy and three in mature years. They were Thomas of Barnes City, Stella Hazlette of Sterling, Kansas and [unreadable) of Seattle, WA. Those living who will miss her are Mrs. M. L. . Miller, Mrs. G. H. . Wymore, Mrs.. Molyneaux. G. Darland of Barnes City Iowa; J. W. . Darland of Oklahoma and Mrs. John Soults of California; an aged sister Mrs. N. A. . Killough of Marshalltown, IA, 47 grandchildren and 118 great grandchildren and 11 great, great, grandchildren and a host of friends.

She went to her savior March 23, 1926, at the ripe age of 95 years, 2 months and 28 days. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church, Thursday March 25, by Rev. F. M. Strange and internment was made in Barnes City, Iowa, Cemetery. - This appeared in the Barnes City, Iowa Newspaper. Note: Allie Margaret Lough Darland was the sister of Sarah J. Lough Darland whose obituary appears first on your list of "D's". Sisters married brothers. - Judy Cassidy ( 117 Evergreen Court , Blue Bell, PA 19422 .)

Dr. Perry Wycliffe Bushong is dead at 99. He would have been 100 years of
age in Feb. He died last Wed. night at Bellvue Nursing Home in Bowling Green.
Funeral services were held Friday at Butler Funeral Home with burial in
Edmonton Cem. Rev. J.W. Barton officiated. He was born in 1861 at Rock Bridge in
Monroe Co., the eldest of 7 children. He began his education at age 24, at
Summer Shade Academy and then went to Louisville where he graduated from the
medical and dental school. At 36, he returned to Summer Shade to begin his
practice and then in 1910 moved to Edmonton. Dr. Bushong was a familiar figure in
Edmonton and community for more than half a century. Hundreds and hundreds of
residents can remember him, ram-rod straight, sitting astride his horse as he
made his rounds. Dr. Bushong was not only a doctor and dentist, but a school
teacher, farmer, County Agent, tree-lover, farmer and all-around progressive
citizen whose keen mind was years ahead of the times in which he live!
Dr. Bushong, in 1917 interrupted his medical career to go to war. He went
overseas and was a captain in the US Medical Corps. He was married to Della
Morrison of Eighty Eight, who died in 1954. He is survived by a son, Paul D.
Bushong, Owensboro, and a dau, Mrs. C.J.P. Carver, Somerset; 3 grandchildren and
2 great grandchildren.

W. D. Bushong, a respected farmer living near Guion on the William Jarvis
farm, died Saturday of neuritis and heart complications. Funeral services
at the Christian Church on Monday morning were in charge of Rev. Ray D.
Thomas of Crawfordsville. Burial at Waynetown. The following obituary was
read: Death, that grave messenger has entered the home and taken to
eternity a father, brother and husband to meet a father and mother. He being the
first of the brothers and sisters. W. D. Bushong was born December 31,
1865 near Summer Shade, Ky. He was the son of William Davis and Nancy
Elizabeth Bushong. He departed this life March 22, 1924 at his home near Guion at
the age of 58 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was united in married to
Laura Palmore, May 30, 1893. To this union were born six children, Lela,
Dalton, Louis, Stanley, Zada and Carson. Besides the wife and children he
leaves to mourn his loss Dr. P. W. Bushong of Edmonton, KY; Mrs. Crayton Moore
and S.J. Bushong of Mud Lick, KY; George T. Bushong of near Waynetown;
Mrs. Sallie Whitley of Summer Shade, KY and Rev. J.T. Bushong of Brandon,
Florida and 3 grandchildren with other relatives and a host of friends. He will
be greatly missed by Paul Miller a homeless boy, that he was being a
father to. He united with the Christian Church at Mary Etta, KY at an early
age. Since coming to Indiana March 29, 1919 he placed his membership with
this church remaining a faithful Christian until the end. His many friends
will always miss him because he always had an open hand to the needy and a
sympathetic heart for the suffering. He never gave himself a thought. His
children most always depended upon his advice. Sunset and evening star
And one clear call for me. May there be no sadness and farewell When I put

Branstetter, 63, years old, Judson, who died Thursday, will be at 2 o'clock
Monday afternoon at the Barnes Mortuary. The Rev. C. W. Mears will
officiate and burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery. She was a member of the
Judson Baptist Church and the V. F. W. Auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Zadora Hall of Judson; a sister, Mrs. Zada Bradley of Frankfort,
Kentucky, and four brothers, Louis Bushong of Marshall, Carson Bushong of
Waveland, Dalton Bushong of Hoopeston, Illinois, and Stanley Bushong of

She says her father told her that he was an only child, as she was. Do you have any info on Pauline Bushong, did she live to adulthood? We have searched the Sutro Library in S.F. and saw Victor Bushong on the 1930 Census. We got copies of the Death Certificates for John and Lilly. That is the most we have. Would love to know more.
