The funeral of Mrs. F.M. Gregory took place this morning at 10 o'clock at her son's residence on North Winnebago Street, Dr. Sutherland officiating.
Mrs. F. Marion [Maria] Gregory was born in the town of Kortright, Delaware County, N.Y., Jan. 25, 1815. She was married to Samuel Gregory Oct. 12, 1836, and settled at Bloomville, N.Y., residing there until June, 1848, when their family of five children, they removed to the town of Harlem, in this county, and settled near the Scotch church. Her husband died Nov. 2. 1853, and was buried in the cemetery at Roscoe. Mrs. Gregory resided on the homestead in Harlem until 1870, when she removed to Rockford, where she has passed the declining years of her life, residing with her son, W.H. Gregory, at 810 North Winnebago street, until her death.
Four of her children survive her. W.H. Gregory, Rockford; Mrs. John Watterson, LaPorte City, Iowa; Mrs. B.F. Richardson, Roscoe; Miss Mary A. Gregory, Rockford, her youngest daughter, Mrs. James Lamont, having died Sept. 15, 1870.
When about 17 years of age she united with the M.E. church at Bloomville, N.Y., and was a member of Court Street M.E. Church at the time of her death. She was an earnest, faithful Christian, though for some years debarred from taking an active part in the church by reason of declining health. She was a firm and faithful friend, a loving, tender and indulgent mother. Simultaneously the caresses of her kind hand and the beating of her warm heart ceased to do their bidding. She sank to rest without a struggle. she leaves a large circle of friends and relatives, only a few of whom are able, owing to the suddeness of her death, to follow her remains to their last resting place in the cemetery at Roscoe.

Death Of Mrs. Waterson
Mrs. John Waterson died several days ago at her home at LaPorte, Ia., after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Waterson's maiden name was Susan C. Gregory. She lived for many years in early life in Harlem, about a mile north of he Willow Creek Presbyterian church. She was married in 1863 to John Waterson, at that time a resident of the Scotch settlement. Some years after their marriage they moved to Rockford, Mr. Waterson being in N.C. Thompson's employ on the water power. Afterwards they moved to Iowa and for some time have lived in LaPorte. Mr. Waterson is the mayor of that city. Three children are left. Mrs. Nettie Jack, who lives near Charles City; James, who is Chicago, and Gertude, lives at home.

Joel .B. Woolsey, farmer and stock raiser, seoLion seven, post office, Auburn, was born in Onoudaga county, New York, on the 25th day of M.iy, 1834; sou of Joseph and Percilla A. (Barber) Woolscy, who were married in Onondaga county, New York, May 4, 1831. There was a Family of eight children, of whom six are living, Edward P., James D., George W., Simeon L., Amos II., and Joel B.; two died in infancy. In 1836, left his home in Ouondaga county, New York, with his family and started then for the Far West, and located near Jerseyville, where he entered eighty acres of land, where he has resided since. Joel B. was reared on his father'* farm where he received a limited education, remaining at home until he was twenty-one. When twenty-three he married Miss Martha Fitzgcralds, a daughter of Jessie and Elizabeth Fitzgcralds, natives of Kentucky, who came to Jersey county in an early day, where she wa» born, April 28, 1839. By this union there were nine children, five of whom are living, Ella V., born September 18, 1858; Elizabeth, A. born November 26, 1866; Clara /., born April 25, 1870; Frances S., born March II, 1873; Daisy E., born March 7, 1876. Mr. W. is a member of the Masonic and I. O. O. F. lodges of Auburn; has a farm of one hundred and sixty acres of land, all of which is under a high state of cultivation, valued at $65 per acre. He came to the county in 1859 a poor man, and rented for some years but finally bought his present place, where he is comfortably located.

"...He was born in Jersey Township, Jersey County, Ill., October 27, 1841, a son of Joseph B. and Ann (Barber) Woolsey, natives of New York, who came to Jersey County at an early date, and entered government land in Jersey Township, the greater portion of which was in timber. This land Joseph B. Woolsey cleared off and improved, becoming a farmer on an extensive scale, and he also worked at the carpenter trade for a number of years. His children were as follows: Edward, who is deceased: Joel P., who lives at Coffeeville, Kas.; James, who is deceased; Simeon, who lives at Auburn, Ill.; Amos, who lives in Oklahoma; and George H.
On Oct. 31, 1867 George married Barbara Ann Whorton, born in Jersey County, Ill. Joseph W. Fitzgerald were married. She died on 22 April 1929, at age ~86, in Wood River, Madison ounty, Illinois.
Her married name was Susan Fitzgerald. Joseph W. Fitzgerald is a son of one
of the earliest settlers of this county.
Jesse Fitzgerald, a native of Kentucky,
who came to this county at an early
date. He was accompanied by his
wife, Elizabeth (Curry) Fitzgerald, also
a native of Kentucky. On his arrival
in Jersey county, Mr. Fitzgerald bought
of his cousin, who had entered it, 400
acres of land. They moved from Ken-
tucky with ox teams, and first stopped
in St. Louis county, from whence they
came to Jersey. Jesse Fitzgerald was a
cabinet-maker by trade, at which occu-
pation he worked previous to his com-
ing to this county, when he engaged in
farming in the wilderness of this new
country. He died April 9, 1S55, and his
wife, April 28, 1883. Joseph W. was
born March 8, 1842, and reared upon
the farm, living with his parents till he
arrived at the age of 19. He was mar-
ried Feb. 21, 1861, to Susan Woolsey,
daughter of Amos and Eunice Woolsey.
In Aug., 1S62, Mr. Fitzgerald enlisted
in Co. C, of the 122d 111. Inf., and
served until the close of the war. tak-
ing part in a number of noted engage-
ments. He now owns 60 acres on sec-
tions 3 and 34. He is a republican po-
litically, and has held the office of
school director about nine years. Mr.
and Mrs. Fitzgerald have four children

Sarah Woolsey was born about 1849 in Ashtabula County, Ohio. She died.
Her married name was Sarah Hall. Dr. Benjamin J. Hall was born at
Lebanon, Marion county, Ky., on the
19th of April, 1834, his parents being
Joseph A. and .Mary A. ( Mudd) Hall,
natives of Kentucky. Benjamin . I., the
subject of this sketch, received his
early education at St. Mary's College,
in Lebanon, attending school thereuntil
he was about 16 years of age. In the
year 1851, he went to Louisville, Ky.,
to attend the Medical University of that
city, at which plaoe lie graduated in his
chosen profession in 1854. During that
year he begun the practice of his profes-
sion at Raywick, Ky., and continued
there until 1862. In the year 1864, he
came to Greene county, 111., and located
at Old Kane, where hi' remained only
one year. In the year 1865, he removed
to Hardin, Calhoun county, remaining
there until 1881, when he again returned
to Greene county, and located at Kane,
where he has since continued as a prac-
ticing physician. On the 5th day of
August, 1865, he was married to Sarah
( Woolsey) White, daughter of Amos and
Eunice Woolsey. By this marriage there
were seven children, four of whom are
now living — Joseph A., Daniel W., Ida
M. and Bennie L: Dr. Hall owns prop-
erty in the village of Kane, and has a
good practice which is constantly in-
creasing, and in which he has proven to

In response to your message. I am the GGgrandson of Dr. Benjamin J. Hall and
Sarah Woolsey. They were md 5 Aug 1865 in Greene Co., IL. Benjamin was born in
Lebanon, Marion Co., KY on the 19 Apr 1834, he is the son of Joseph Hall and Mary A.
Mudd natives of KY. He earned his degree at St. Marys College in Lebanon and in
1851 went to Louisville to attend the Medical University where he graduated in 1854.
He was in Reywick, KY until 1862. In 1864 he went to Greene Co., IL and stayed for
one year then went to Hardin, Calhoun Co, IL until 1881. Sarah is the dau of Amos
Woolsey and Eunice.
Benjamin and Sarah had seven children, four of which lived. Their son Joseph Hall
is my Ggrandfater, he was b 26 Oct 1868 in Greene Co., IL. He md Allice Huffman in
Kennett, Dunklin Co, MO on the 20 Jul 1889. Allice had been md to C. N. Wilburn
when she was 13 years old. When she was 16 she md Ggrandpa Joseph. She had
no children from her first marriage. Her first husband drowned while swimming with
some other boys.
Joseph and Allice had seven children, three survived to Adulthood they are James,
Daisy and Bertha. Daisy Dovey Jane Hall is my grandmother. She md my
grandfather Willie Lee Ray 31 Aug 1919 in Kennett, Dunklin Co., MO. They had 4
children: Otilla, W. L., Melba and Imogene. Melba is my mother and my father is

Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was son of the late George & Barbara (Wharton) Woolsey and was born in Jersey County, April 22, 1882. Surviving are 2 sons, Paul, Brighton and Rupert W Woolsey, Jerseyville; 12 grandchildren and g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs Nell Bell, Grafton. She and Robert E Woolsey were married in Jerseyville on December 20, 1941. Surviving are her husband; 4 daughters, Bobbie Bechtold, Godfrey, Betty Walsh, E Alton, Vicki Unverzagt, Brighton, and Debbie Kyle, Jerseyville; 2 sons, Jim Woolsey, Brighton and Jeff Woolsey, Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Fischer, Phoenix, AZ; and 1 brother, Oliver "Bud" Ferguson, Grafton. No Visitation was scheduled. Memorial services we at Agape Christian Fellowship, Godfrey, where she was a member. Rev David Buesinger officiated. Burial was at a later date. Memorials may be given to an educational trust fund, established for Javen Woolsey, a grandson whom she had raised. Contributions may be directed to Jersey State Bank, Jerseyville.

WOOLSEY. Died 30-01-1985. E D "Bill" Woolsey, 74, of Tulsa, OK, a native of Kane, died January 30, at St. Francis hospital, Tulsa, OK. He was born November 13, 1911 in Kane son of the late Willaim Benjamin & Anna (Allen) Woolsey. He was a WW II Veteran of the US Navy. He went to Oklahoma to attend college and remained. He was employed for Sears-Roebuck for 10 years before joining Oasco. He retired from Otasco after 30 years, where he had been a credit supervisor. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Creach) Woolsey, Tulsa, 1 son, Stephen Woolsey, Morris, OK; 4 daughters, Sue Ann Shaddy, Patty Frakes, Joannie Sibole and Barbar Woolsey, all of Tulsa and 4 grandchildren.

WOOLSEY. Died 15-03-1965. Edgar Earl "Hack" Woolsey, 61 years, 3 months, 7 days, of Las Cruces, NM, former Mayor of Jerseyville (1947-51), died March 15, at Memorial General hospital, Las Cruces. He had submitted to surgery in January and had been a patient only since Saturday. The body arrived at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where arrangements were incomplete. He was son of John Woolsey, Jerseyville and the late Jennie (Eastham) Woolsey and was born in Fidelity December 8, 1903. He had been a resident of Jerseyville most of his life and as a young man was employed at the Shoe Factory. He had hauled mail for the railroad companies in Alton and Jerseyville. While residing here Mr Woolsey was an active member of the Elks Loddge. Mr & Mrs Woolsey had resided in Las Cruces for several years, where he managed a trailer court. Surviving are his wife, Stella Woolsey, and 1 stepdau, Mrs Thomas f Tucker Jr, of Las Cruces, his father, John Woolsey, 1 sister, Mrs Clifford Alexander, and 3 bros, Paul, Russell and Clifton Woolsey.

She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late George L & Minnie (Hutchinson) Stoeckel. She was employed in the metallic Loading division at Olin Corp for 25 years, retiring in 1967. Surviving are 6 sons Harry Nelson JR, Wood River, William Woolsey, E Alton, Francis Woolsey, Alton, Gerald Woolsey of Marissa and Donald and David Woolsey, both of S Roxana; 3 daughters, Doris Jouett, Godfrey, Loretta Jones, Bethalto and Jo Ann Simpson, Plainview; 16 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Minnie Davis, Piasa; and 1 half brother, William Pope, Medora. She was a charter member of Eagles Aux #254, Alton. Visitation was at Marks Mortuary, Wood River. The Wood River Order of Eastern Star conducted services at the funeral home. Services were held there with Rev Jon Lobos officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.

Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Earl Clagg, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She was a daughter of Jerry & Gussie (Gunterman) Cope, Jerseyville and was born in Jersey County, October 23, 1913. Surviving is are her husband, Lester W Woolsey; her parents; 2 sons, Rodney W Woolsey, S Roxana, and Arbie D Woolsey, Redlands, CA; 2 daughters, Mrs Norman Backues, and Mrs Dale Stanley, Bethalto; 10 grandchildren; 2 bros, Virgil and Robert Cope, Jerseyville; and 3 sisters, Mrs Thelma Leidner, Greenville, Mrs Everett Bain, Belleville, and Mrs Alberta Fox, Jerseyville. One brother, Russell Cope preceded her in death.

Woolsey retired in 1965 from Local #525, Teamsters union, was born in Jersey County June 30, 1900. His parents were the late Frederick C & Ella (Linker) Woolsey. Surviving are 3 daughters, Doris Jouett, Godfrey, Loretta Jones, Bethalto and JoAnn Simpson, Carlinville; 4 sons, Gerald, of Marissa and Donald and David, S Roxana and Eugene, Alton; stepson Harry Nelson, Wood river; half sister, Beaulah Norris, Deer Creek; 16 grandchildren; and several g-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Gent Funeral Home November 8, with Rev Fred Beck, Chaplin at Alton Memorial hospital, officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of choice.

Funeral services were held December 2 at Kane Baptist Church with Rev Darwin Rolens, officiating. Graveside rites were conducted by the Right Rev Michael Enright at St. John Cemetery, Carrollton. He was a son of George O & Ella Mae (Bennet) Woolsey and was born in Jersey County, August 26, 1917. He was a former employee of the Steel Mill. surviving are his parents; his wife, Beatrice (Balddridge) Woolsey; 4 bros, Willam and Edward Woolsey, Kane, Pearl Woolsey, Alton and George Woolsey, Raytown, MO; and 3 sisters, Mrs lauralee Greene, Jacksonville, Mrs Irene Martin, Carrollton and Mrs Unice Crotchett, Brighton. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

He was the grandfather of Mrs Thomas Frazier Jr, Jerseyville. Also surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs Clarence Phillips, Scott, AR, and Mrs Burl Houser, England, AR and 1 son, Harry Woolsey, La Mesa, CA. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Coy, AR, where he was a resident, and burial was near Coy, AR.

Rev Carl C Moman, pastor of First Baptist church officiated over the services at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Interment was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. The retired section hand, was born in Jersey County, March 26, 1874, a son of the late James D &I Mary (Baugh) Woolsey. Mr Woolsey had been ill since November last and had been hospitalized. surviving are 3 nieces, Mrs Bourgeois, Mellville, Mrs Hazel Bates, Valley Park, MO, and Mrs Edna - - - iedfer, St. Louis. He was a - incomplete.

He was son of the late Amos & Alice (Farmer) Woolsey and was born in Jersey County on July 22, 1878. He was an honorary member of the Local Eagles Lodge. Surviving is are 1 daughter, Mrs Clifford (Thelma) Alexander, Jerseyville, 3 sons, Clifton and Russell Woolsey, Jerseyville and Paul E Woolsey, St. Louis; 5 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs Eliza Collenberger and Mrs Stella Carroll of Jerseyville and Mrs Jess Lyman, Peoria. He was preceded in death by 1 stepson, Reginald D Tucker, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there with Revs Earl Clagg and Joy Settles officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Assoc.
