"The remains of Mrs. Summie Hawkins Bushong who died Monday, December the
fifth, at her home in Washington, D. C., were brought to Culpeper on Tuesday for
burial in the Bushong family burrying ground near Clarkson where rest the
remains of her husband, Newton Bushong, who died six years ago.
Funeral services were held at Clarkson at the old Isaac Bushong homestead
now the residence of Arthur Bushong, the Rev. J. W. Johnson of Ebenezer Church
officiating at three o'clock.
The active pallbearers, grandchildren of the deceased were: Messrs Melvin,
Robert, Russell and Hulon Kilby, Marvin Dulin and Howard Bushong. Honorary: A.
J. White, Lee Yowell, Bryant Dulin, Frank White, Robert Morgan, Clifton White
and Phillip Palmer.
A native of Culpeper where she passed her early life, Mrs. Bushong had been
a resident of Washington for twenty years.
Deceased was eighty years of age and had been in declining health for some
time.
Mrs. Bushong is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Joe Kilby, Mrs. Robert
Dulin, and son, Robert Bushong.
Among those in the funeral party from Washington were: Mr. and Mrs. George

Obituary

Robert William “Bill” Bushong 94 was born on September 19, 1921 in Washington D.C. the youngest of three sons of Russell and Nellie Bushong.

He passed away on July 22, 2016 in Longwood.

Bill married Janet Miller in Arlington, Virginia in 1950, and they were one month shy of celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary when Janet passed away in 2011.

Bill and Janet moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1954, where they raised their two sons and where they lived until Bill retired after 28 years with the Broward County Sherriff’s Department.

In retirement they enjoyed extensive travel around the United States in their motor home, as well as living in DeLand and spending summers in Maggie Valley, N.C.

A strong family man, Bill is remembered with deep gratitude by son, Bob and daughter-in-law Jeanne of Maitland; son Gary and daughter-in-law Joanne of Davie; grandchildren Robbie, Kimberly Bushong Anderson, Joseph, Kathleen, Patrick, and Michael; great-grandchildren Kaylah and Marley Anderson and Jordan Butler.

A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Winter Park.

Memorials gifts in Bill’s honor may be made to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, 51 Children’s Way P.O. Box 6299 Enterprise, FL 32725.

She is survived by her sister, Rita (Dave) Willis, of Plano, Texas; and nephews Taylor (Taryn) Willis and Grant Willis; and great-niece Zoey Willis.


Doris was the granddaughter of the late Littleton Ray Lacks and Florence Edwards Lacks of the Mt. Laurel community.

Friends and cousins also are left to mourn her passing.

Doris served as a legislative assistant in the Virginia House of Delegates, Richmond, for many years.


A graveside service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the Memorial National Park, Falls Church.
