Amice (Avicia\Alice) de Clare

Parents

FatherGilbert de Clare (b. 1180, d. 25 October 1230)
MotherIsabella Marshal (b. 9 October 1200, d. 15 January 1240)

Biography

Amice (AviciaAlice) de Clare was born on 27 May 1220 in Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales.1 She died before 21 January 1284.1
He [Baldwin de Reviers] married, in 1226, Amice, 1st daught er of Gilbert (DE CLARE), EARL OF GLOUCESTER AND HERTFORD , by Isabel, sister and in her issue coheir of Walter, EAR L OF PEMBROKE, and 2nddaughter of William (LE MARESCHAL) , EARL OF PEMBROKE. He died 15 February 1244/5, aged abou t 28, and was buried in Breamore Priory, Hants. His widow' s dower was assigned 22 April 1245. On 10 January 1247/8 th e King gave his assent to the marriage of Amice to Robert D E GYNES (younger son of Arnoul II, COUNT OF GUINES) if sh e consented thereto[e]. She, who founded the Abbey of Buckl and, Devon, was born 27 May 1220, and died shortly before 2 1 January 1283/4, aged 63. [Complete Peerage IV:318-9, (tr anscribed by Dave Utzinger)]

[e] There is no evidence that he ever married her, and sh e was certainly unmarried in April 1249.

NOTE: Despite the above statement that Amice did not marr y Robert de Gynes (or anyone before 1249), a number of peop le have Amice marrying 2ndly Nigel de Plumpton/Plympton. T he dates make sense (maybe Amice/Avicia & Nigel de Plumpto n were married a little after April 1249?). I have see n a couple of references on SGM for a marriage between an A vicia de Clare (parents not identified) & NigelPlumpton, b ut have not seen any good sources for it yet.
