GRANTS SOUTH OF GREEN RIVER
A group of records entered from 1797 to 1866 known as Grants South of Green River comprises twenty- nine books and includes 15,730 separate grants. These were known sometimes as " Headright Claims, ' ' and were based upon an act of the Kentucky General Assembly of December 21, 1795, and are listed in Chapter IV.
TELLICO GRANTS
The small and unique group of land grants recorded between 1803 and 1853 embraces the grants issued upon warrants from the Register of the Land Office upon what is known as the Tellico Claims.
KENTUCKY LAND WARRANTS
In 1815 the Kentucky State Legislature passed an act relative to land distribution, and the records written in fulfillment of this statute are now known as Kentucky Land Warrants, 1816-1873. These grants consist of forty- three books and 25,621 grants and comprise Chapter VI of this volume. The act of the General Assembly governing this group of grants opened for sale, at $ 20.00 per 100 acres, all the vacant
lands to anyone in Kentucky, except an alien.
COUNTY COURT ORDERS
The most extensive group of Kentucky land records has become known as the County Court Orders. These consist of 126 volumes and are thoroughly indexed in Chapter X. They include 69,356 separate land grants. This group of grants was created by an act of the General Assembly and approved February 28, 1835. Under the statute, each county in Kentucky was given all the vacant and unappropriated land within its boundary lying east and north of the Tennessee River. This
is the most recent group of land grants in Kentucky; hence its inclusive dates are 1836 to 1924. Bishong, Henry 200 Acres Book 2 page 131 Date of Survey 3-4-1799 County Green Watercourse E Fk Big Barren River
