Funeral services for Charles Oliver Bushong, 74, who died Feb. 28, at Orlando, Florida, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery with Rev. Sam Hartsock, of Indianapolis, in charge. The body was cremated March 5, at the Crematorium in Orlando, Florida and the ashes were shipped to Young's Funeral home for burial. Mr. Bushong who lived in Tipton for about 35 years, was born at Thorntown. Mr. Bushong married Christine Pape, duaghter of John Pape, of Tipton. They moved from Tipton to Chillicothe and later to Orlando, Florida. Mr. Bushong was a railroad emplouee. His wife survives.

Arangements are being made by Young's Funeral home. Mrs. Bushong, who was 78, died March 10 at her home in Florida. She was born, July 1, 1872, the daughter of John and Mary (Urban) Pape. She was one of four children in the family and resided in Tipton until her marriage to Charles Bushong, who is deceased. The brothers are also deceased. A niece, Mrs. Marian Pape Cayee, of Charlotte, N.C. survives.

MRS. WALTER G. BUSHONG

Mrs. Dora S. Bushong, 77, 114 S. Ann Street. died Friday at 11:30 p.m. at her home following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Walter G. Bushong, who served 25 years as Lancaster chief of police and later operated a coal business. Born in Gap, she was the daughter of the late Samuel
and Elizabeth Williams Stillwell. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Surviving are the following children: Miriam D. wife of Howard Van Vechten, Springfield; W. Raymond, Charles A. and Mae E. wife of Christian C. Rudy, all of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a sister Edith, wife of Walter Winger, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Miriam D. Bushong was born in 1897 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She and Howard Van Vechten were married. She died on 13 January 1967, at age ~70, in Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. She was buried in Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

RECOLLECTIONS: KYGER'S MILL GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Few and obscure are the landmarks today of pioneer days when settlers flooded into the rolling hills of the Midwest. One of the familiar sights in this area a century ago was Kyger's Mill near Grape Creek on the Vermillion River, six miles southwest of Danville, then a village of only a few hundred.
Amid scenic beauty, the three-story frame building housed a huge grist mill that ground wheat and corn night and day. Through a small structure adjacent to it passed thousands of logs to be sawed into rough lumber. The first mill was built on the site by William Sheets and Thomas Morgan of Georgetown in 1835. When Henry T. Kyger purchased the mill in 1850, he enlarged the building, installed new machinery and formed a partnership with the two brothers, Daniel and Tilmon Kyger.
The original Kyger family was Henry T. Kyger and wife, their five daughters and two sons. Of these, two sons and a daughter survive: MRS. CHARLES T. BUSHONG, 602 Buchanan Street, R. J. Kyger, 316 Chandler and Willet T. Kyger, of Pocahontas, Arkansas. Power to run the grinding burrs and sawmill was furnished by two turbine shells driven by water impounded in a large fore-bay or mill race. Water was forced into it by a dam built across the river at an angle to the mill.
Both corn and wheat were ground by stone burrs. Lumber was cut by a "gate-saw" fitted into a huge frame about eight feet high and six feet wide. The sawmill turned out about two thousand feet of lumber a day, considered good in those days. The price was 50 cents per hundred feet, or a share. Other buildings used in the milling business included a mill barn to house the horses and oxen, a cooperage for making barrels to ship flour, a wheat granery and barracks for mill hands. Henry Kyger sold the mill after operating it more than 30 years, but it continued to be used until the turn of the century when the structure weakened by age, fell of its own weight into the river. Mrs. Luella Kyger Bushong, 81, died at 1:29 a.m. Friday, (14 December 1956) at her home, 602 South Buchanan Street, following a brief illness.
A daughter of Henry T. and Electa A/ Redfern Kyger, she was born in Grape Creek 18 September 1875. She was married 24 June 1897, to Charles T. Bushong who died in November, 1951. She was a member of St. James Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are two brothers, Willet T. Kyger of Memphis, Tennessee and Roy J. Kyger of Danville. A son, Willet J. Bushong, died in 1924, and his wife, now Mrs. Harold Stokes of Mission, Kansas, also survives.
Others who preceded Mrs. Bushong in death include four sisters, Mrs. W. A. King, Miss Mary and Miss Minnie Kyger and Mrs. George Charlton.
The body is at the Berhalter Funeral Home for services at 2:20 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Paul Curry will officiate, with burial in Springhill Cemetery.

Willett Jay Bushong was born in 1903 in Illinois. He and Opal Edith Gammel were married. He died on 8 April 1924, at age ~21, in Marion, Grant County, Indiana. He was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum, Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois.

HARVEY BUSHONG
Harvey Bushong, 76, of 2111 S. N. Street died Thursday in a Fort Smith
hospital. He was a driver for Model Laundry and a member of St. Andrew
Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be held at 2 pm Monday at Fentress chapel. Burial will be
a Oak Cemetery udner the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae; two sons Colonel Jim of Fort
Shaffer, Hawaii, and Major Richard of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; two sisters,
Sallie Bushong and Rennah Thompson, both of Fort Smith; a brother, Spratt of
Colmesneil, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Joiner, David and Phillip Plunkett, Arthur
Plunkett Jr., Ted Whitson and F. L. Stevenson.
Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
